The Centre for World University Rankings https://cwur.org/2026.php in a new survey of 21,291 Universities Globally ranked the following SA universities in the top 2000:
- Wits
- UCT
- Stellenbosch
- UKZN
- Tuks
- UJ
- UNISA
- UOFS
- Rhodes
- NMU
SA has 26 Universities
University rankings are not without controversy and recently, in fact, Rhodes University published an official policy document stating that it would no longer participate in the university ranking process as it was exploitive and did not represent the transformation challenges faced by universities in South Africa. Interestingly Harvard and Yale, for different reasons, have also pulled out of the university ranking process.
