The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) of South Africa have received a R1.2 million boost from Hollard to raise awareness and fund prostate cancer programmes. The event also marked the launch of the 2026 Daredevil Run, set to take place on 23 October at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg under the tagline “Lekker Balls, Lekker Life.” The cheque handover and campaign launch took place at Hollard Campus in Parktown, Johannesburg, on 24 June.
According to the PCF, prostate cancer remains a leading cause of cancer deaths among South African men, driven by low screening rates, stigma, and poor health education. CANSA warned that testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15–49, affecting about 1 in 250 males.
As the R1.2 million raised in the 2025 Hollard Daredevil Run was formally handed over to CANSA and PCF of South Africa, CEO Andrew Oberholzer said, “The Hollard Daredevil Run donation is the largest single annual contribution to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The funds sustain the helpline, support networks for men and families, distribute multilingual educational material, and keep free PSA screening programmes running nationwide.” Oberholzer added that the campaign has contributed to the development of South Africa’s first comprehensive prostate cancer registry, which will be launched in 2026 to track incidence, treatment, and outcomes.
National Manager of Health Programmes at CANSA, Lorraine Govender said Hollard Daredevil Run has become more than a fundraising event; it is a national movement that encourages men to speak openly about their health and seek help sooner. “We are incredibly grateful to Hollard and every participant whose courage and commitment enable CANSA to continue providing awareness, early detection, screening, and support services to men across South Africa.”
Group Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard, Hazel Chimhandamba, added that the Hollard Daredevil Run is an unforgettable experience that raises awareness in a fun, engaging manner and sparks dialogue about men’s health in a non-threatening way. “We are incredibly grateful to every Daredevil who dared to run in a purple speedo. It takes a special kind of bravery to turn heads for something that truly matters. Because behind all the laughs is a very serious mission: getting more men to check in on their health and each other.”
